Acupuncture Treatment in the Mind-Body Center (80 Central Park West office)
By Dr. Shuang Huo.
Treatment started on Sunday, May 15, 2011.
Short Summary Review for IBS Acupuncture Treatment (for period 06/15/11 – 06/24/11):
Short case history before treatment:
I am suffering IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for approximately 22 years, with big fluctuations during that time, but in average my IBS was at moderate level. At end of 2009 my IBS came out of control with severe symptoms after each bowel movement, such as:
a) severe tension and pain in lower abdominal area and as result:
b) severe shortness of breath.
d) strong nausea, much harder ability to concentrate and nerviness during the day and as result:
e) unusual strong weakness in whole body.
f) tendency to lay down all the time.
g) tendency to eat more often, which in my case helps to reduce nausea symptoms, but in result gains weight.
h) fear to go to restroom and as result tendency to delay stool. That usually makes my bowel movement even
more painful.
All these symptoms are happened right after each bowel movement (which happened to be most of the time in the morning), practically almost after each stool. Normally it was needed almost 8 hours to recovery and to reduce all symptoms to moderate level. Lately, shortly before starting treatment, most of above referenced symptoms stayed even longer, practically all the day until falling in sleep. Contrary, in case of absence of stool in that day, my condition was 10 times better, creating tendency to avoing stool or changing its habit to evening hours. But this was less successful in my case. Delaying the stool makes it harder and therefore all symptoms much worthier.
In conclusion, IBS in my case mainly means nervous, extremely sensitive stomach and as result very severe condition after each bowl movement and that’s all, because consistency of the stool itself is normal most of the time (practically no diarrhea or constipation ever).
During and after one month of treatment:
After starting acupuncture treatments my IBS symptoms start to improve slowly, approximately after
5th session (from May, 26 or after 10 days). After that, my symptoms still fluctuate during the day,
but even worthier days are say 25% better than before treatment was started.
Overall my condition for 1st month has been improved significally; say almost 50% better than before.
Also I am very satisfied with Dr. Huo, always filling calmer and relaxed during and right after treatment.
Most important thing is that time to recovery after bowel movement reduced to 3-4 hrs instead of 6 to 8 hours as was before treatment. Also I feel calmer and much less weak during the day, being more productive doing my job. Tension in lower abdominal area and following from that shortness of breath still stays all the time, but became much less severe and then gradually reduces during shorter recovery period.
2. "As Promised,: My Acupucture "Diary" by Gl***, May 13th, 2010
I will say that it is at least 85% better than it was thanks to you and your knowledge. I hope when I go on the once a week plan that will help a little more. I am grateful for what it is. [Full diary reading here]

By crispyJun 12, 2009| I was sent to Dr. Huo as part of follow-up treatment for gastric motility issues, following hospitalization and placement of a feeding jejunostomy tube. Over the next 18 months or so, I continued to see Dr. Huo anywhere from twice a week to once a month; she saw me from the difficult early days, though improvement and removal of the tube, to the point where I no longer needed treatment. During this time, she proved to be competent, dedicated, detail-oriented, and caring; and she listened carefully to anything I reported. Her motility treatments definitely speeded the recovery process; she also provided effective relief from an ongoing back issue and treatment for sleep issues. When I had a temporary relapse, she was my first phone call. In short, I cannot recommend Dr. Huo highly enough, and would not hesitate to recommend her to family or friends! |

By calistowolfSep 8, 2009| I was recommended to go to Dr. Huo by my gastroenterologist because I was having major problems with my IBS. Ever since I started going to her my problems have decreased signicantly. Nothing I have ever done or tried has helped me and the pains/discomfort associated with IBS like acupuncture. The best part of Dr. Huo is she listens to you, and is very concerned in healing you from within as opposed to other doctors I've seen who just want to give you pills to mask the problem. I'm very thankful to have a trustworthy acupuncturist. Dr. Huo has given me my normal routine back. |
